In just 14 years of active work and implementation of innovations, ASTRA BIOPLANT has become one of the leading companies in the Balkans for the production of biodiesel, refined and unrefined oil, free fatty acids, glycerin and meal.

At present, the operating capacity of ASTRA BIOPLANT for biodiesel production has a capacity of 300,000 tons per year. By the middle of the year, the company plans to introduce capacity for another 60,000 tons and reach a capacity of 360,000 tons at the end of 2021. The capacity for the production of distilled pharmaceutical glycerin is 10,000 tons per year, and by the end of the year will a production plant for another 15,000 tons will be built. With a capacity of 25,000 tons for pharmaceutical glycerin, the company will establish itself as the largest producer in the Balkan region.

In parallel with the increase in its production capacity, ASTRA BIOPLANT is focusing on new generation biofuels, which are increasingly supported by European policy. As early as 2000, the trend of promoting this type of production started in the EU. These fuels are not fossil, but renewable, and the raw materials are non-food waste.

The plants of the ASTRA BIOPLANT group have saved 650,000 tons of carbon emissions through their production of biofuels in 2020. With the transition to a higher percentage of second-generation biofuels, companies are expected to exceed 1 million tons of carbon savings in 2021.
