DIONYSUS – Integration of intelligent and sustainable multimodal and intermodal transport chains in the Danube region
DIONYSUS
Danube (and sea) ports are extremely important for the economic development of the Danube region. They are an opportunity to increase trade, grow in the field of ecology and create jobs in it. Investments in inland waterway ports (including rail, road and sea connections) will therefore need to be consistent with the surrounding transport infrastructure and regional development plans.
Improving port infrastructure and the services it provides is crucial to reducing transport costs. This will increase connectivity, facilitate trade and stimulate trade flows in the Danube region.
About the project:
The DIONYSUS project was officially launched on July 1, 2020 as a result of the cooperation between port administrations and operators, business associations, academia and national authorities of the Danube countries. The project is led by Pro Danube Romania, financed by the Danube Transnational Program and is a continuation of the DAPhNE project. The aim of DIONYSUS is to solve the main regional challenges in port infrastructure planning and management in order to facilitate the integration of the Danube region into smart and sustainable multimodal transport chains.
DIONYSUS will help develop policies for the development of the Danube transport corridor. The team will analyze the existing railway and road infrastructure for access to the Danube ports, note its shortcomings and make recommendations for their elimination.
Plans will be created for the development of the Danube ports, operational business models for quality and sustainable development of the region, as well as mechanisms for attracting investments in it.
A General Plan for the River Cruise Industry will also be developed.
All the results of the project will be aligned with the specific objectives of the EU in the field of transport, TEN-T and cohesion policy, making DIONYSUS a key tool for the implementation of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR).
